Johnny the Bad

            by Bobbie Burgos

Johnny was mean to all of the kids in the play yard. He pulled the girls' hair and popped the boys' bouncy balls. He at Suzie's cupcake without asking and threw earth worms at Julia.

Whenever the kids saw Johnny coming they would warn the others and say,

"Johnny the bad is coming!". the kids hid from Johnny, hoping he wouldn't see them.

A couple kids tried to stick up for themselves and stand up against Johnny, but they never scared him.

No one liked Johnny, not even the grown ups. Johnny had no respect for anybody, and he liked it that way. One day, Johnny was walking through the yard, looking for someone to pick on, and he saw a boy he'd never saw before.

This boy had a lot of friends and was nice to everyone and was an overall gentleman. When Johnny saw this boy he felt very lonely and jealous. Johnny tried to think of his friends when he realized that he didn't have any. Johnny wanted to be like that boy, but didn't know how. With tears in his eyes, Johnny walked over to the boy.

Johnny raised his arm to hit the boy in the back when the boy turned around and spoke.

"Hi there, I'm Elliot. Do you want to be my friend?"

Johnny was shocked that Elliot wasn't scared of him and that Elliot actually wanted to be his friend. Johnny thought about what Elliot had asked him for a few seconds and then finally came up with an answer.

"Ok, I'll be your friend," Johnny replied cautiously, "But only if you teach me how to be like you."

"I'd be happy to! what's your name?" Elliot smiled as he talked to Johnny.

            "I'm Johnny." Johnny replied.

From then on Johnny and Elliot were best friends. Elliot taught Johnny how to say "please" when he wanted something instead of "now!", and how to say "thank you" when he got something. Elliot taught Johnny how to be nicer to the girls and boys, and how to ask for things instead of just taking them.

Johnny liked being nice to people and he liked when people were nice to him. He realized that he had a lot of friends because of Elliot and was very grateful. Johnny never wanted to be bad again and promised to help kids that used to be like him. Johnny the bad was no more.
