Once upon a time there was a little girl named Alice. She had red hair with freckles, and she always wore very pretty dresses. Her favorite dress was the one with the flowers; her initials were embroidered on top of a flower that her grandmother had sewed on for her. One day, while Alice was watching T.V, she saw a fairy godmother that gave the little girl everything she wanted. Alice wanted a Fairy Godmother, too. Just like the one that she had seen on T.V she was perfect.
So that night right after she washed her face and brushed her teeth, before she went to bed she said, “Ms. Fairy godmother, if you hear me can you come to me and give me all the things I want like you did for the girl on T.V today?” When Alice finally fell asleep, she dreamed that the fairy godmother had left her a room full of toys, dresses, candy, and cupcakes. It was the best dream she had ever had.
The next morning when Alice got out of bed, she was very excited to see what the fairy had left, but she couldn’t find anything! Alice felt a little disappointed at first, but she decided to try again, tonight.
The whole day she was very anxious for night to come. When night finally came, right after she washed her face and brushed her teeth, and before she had went to bed she was going to try a different way to get her fairy godmother to come. She decided to write her a letter. But before Alice could get her special pencil and paper out, she heard tip toes on the other side of her bed.
“Who’s there?” Alice whispered sure not to wake her parents.
“It’s me, who you asked for, your fairy godmother,” a voice said. She twirled around in the most beautiful dress that Alice had ever seen. It was purple with ruffles at the end, with the most beautiful white ribbon around the waist. It sparkled, like wonderful star sparkles.
“Yes, I saw you on T.V” Alice said, “You had gave that girl everything she could possibly dream of”.
“That is true, but she only got those things only because she had done good things for others” she paused. “When you do good things you always get rewarded”.
Alice thought for a minute. She couldn’t really think of anything that she had done that was out of her way for anybody lately. Alice wasn’t a bad person she just really didn’t care to help others.
“Well Ms. Fairy godmother, I really haven’t done anything to helped anyone lately” she said in a shameful voice.
“Well, let me check here in my records there has to be something that you have done to help another” the fairy said in a hopeful voice.
The fairy godmother had searched her handy book of DO-GOODERS deeds from cover to cover, top to bottom. But no where could she find Alice’s name.
“Oh dear” she shook her head. “Alice you haven’t even done as little as to hold the door open when someone is behind you”.
Alice held her head down. She felt awful.
“I’ll tell you what, if you do three good deeds for others, I mean really good things that you did from the heart, I will be back to grant three of your wishes,” the fairy said in a cheerful way.
So the next morning Alice got right up so that she could hurry and do her good deeds so that she could get her three wishes. As Alice walked to school she saw an old man that had trouble walking across the street. Alice thought that was the perfect deed so she walked up to the man and asked, “Do you need some help crossing the street?”
“Sure, little girl, that would be great.”
When they finally crossed the street Alice felt like the short distance took forever. The kind man had rewarded Alice with a dollar. At first she refused because her mother always told her that she was not supposed to take anything from strangers, but the man simply said you earned it and then Alice didn’t feel so bad.
After Alice had helped the man she felt so good that she almost forgot about the three wishes. When Alice was at lunch she had noticed that her classmate Tommy had forgotten his lunch she felt awful she didn’t want to see him go hungry, so she reached in her pocket and gave Tommy the dollar that she had earned earlier that morning.
“Thanks, a lot Alice, I really appreciate this!”
“No problem.”
“I will pay you back as soon as I can.”
“Don’t worry about it, Tommy, really I don’t mind at all.”
Later at recess Alice had noticed Susie crying, on the playground bench.
What’s wrong Susie, why are you crying?” Alice asked in a concerned voice.
“When I was playing on the jungle gym I ripped my favorite dress I only have three, and they are all very important to me” Susie began to cry more.
“Oh dear a girl with only three dresses, that’s not right,” Alice thought to herself.
‘Susie really it doesn’t look that bad you can barely notice,” Alice said in a comforting voice.
“No I know it looks really bad I could never wear it again.” Susie sounded so depressed.
Alice came up with the best idea ever she was going to bring Susie two of her dresses tomorrow. So as soon as the last bell rang to go home, Susie rushed home so that she could pick out two dresses that she was sure that Susie would like. Finally after carefully deciding Alice picked the sky blue dress that had hearts all over it and the violet one with stars.
Alice had completely forgot about the wishes she was to receive so the Fairy came to remind her.
“Alice you have earned your three wishes,” the fairy said in a proud voice.
“Really I did, I didn’t even notice, because I actually enjoyed helping others.”
“Well you earned them so what would you like?”
Alice hesitated before she was so sure but now she realized she had all that she needed. Then after thinking about it she came up with the best idea all day she decided to wish for others.
“ Well first I wish that all people make it safe across the street, for my second wish I want to make sure that no one ever forgets their lunch and always remembers, and for my third wish I want every girl to at least have five dresses.”
The fairy smiled and granted all of Alice’s wishes. The next morning Alice woke up and when she opened her closet there were ten beautiful new dresses in her closet the same ones she had once cut out of a magazine they were perfect. Pinned on one of the gorgeous dresses was a note from that read,
No good deed goes unrewarded.
Fairy Godmother.
