The Trip |
by Jasmine Hedgepeth
One bright and early morning James decided that he wanted to go on a
camping trip to the woods. He called
his cousin Anthony to see if he would like to join him.
ÒHello
Anthony. This is your big cousin James.Ó
ÒHey
big cousin how are you?Ó
ÒIÕm
doing well; I just wanted to call to see if you wanted to go camping with me.Ó
ÒYeah that sounds fun! When and what time were you plan on going?Ó
ÒWell I planned on leaving tonight but if youÕre not able to go then I
understand.Ó
ÒYes, I will be able to go with you tonight, just give me an hour to pack.Ó
So they hung up the phone and continued packing all of their items. They met up
around 8pm and got on the road. They began driving and realized that there was
a lot of traffic. So they sat in traffic for two ours, irritated and hungry.
Finally the traffic started moving, and all of a sudden the police were behind
them with aching sirens.
Anthony started yelling at James telling him not to pull over.
ÒWhat is going on?Ó
ÒI have warrants. They have been looking for me for the past four months and
IÕm trying to stay away.Ó
ÒWhy didnÕt you just tell me that before we drove away? IÕm not trying to get
in your situation so IÕm pulling over.Ó
ÒI
need you to help me get out this situationÓ Anthony
said.
James
looked at him and said,
ÒHow
in the hell do you expect me to do that?Ó
ÒWell
when we come back from our trip can I stay with you for a little while?Ó
ÒDude
no way. IÕm pulling over now.Ó
James
turned to Anthony and said, ÒWhy do you have warrants, and what are they for.Ó
Anthony said.
ÒWell
one of them is for violating my probation, and the second one is for refusing
to take classes for rehab.
ÒWhy
didnÕt you just go? It would have prevented all of this.Ó
James
stopped the car and next thing you know police assaulted.
Before
looking back both dodged the police and ran into the woods.
Anthony
looked on his left side and told James, ÒThank you for running with me.Ó
James
looked and said, ÒWhatever, you just make sure when we get out of this mess you
turn yourself in.Ó
So
they walked through the woods and came across two elderly men.
ÒHey youngsters. What yaÕll doing down this way?Ó
ÒWe
ran away from the police and now we are trying to find shelter.Ó
The elderly men offered them to come and stay with them at their cabin and they
both agreed.
They
walked with the men to their cabin and when they got there everything didnÕt
quite look normal. There were thousands of spider webs everywhere, the couches
were all dusty, the kitchen had no refrigerator, and there were no beds.
ÒExcuse
me sir?Ó James said. ÒHow are we going to eat and where are we going to sleep?Ó
ÒDonÕt
you worry about it. Everything is going to be
alright.Ó
They
took their word and talked for the rest of the night. The men said that they
had to go run a few errands and told the boys to stay put. So there they were. Just the two of them sitting with nothing to do. The night
passed on mysteriously things started to happen.
The toilet started running non-stop, there was an annoying dripping sound from
the kitchen sink, glass windows started opening and closing and a black
cat came from the corner in the empty room from the left.
They both got scared and ran out the cabin. As they walked down the little dirt
path they saw a stray dog. The dog made eye contact with them
and immediately started chasing him. They ran up huge tree breathing at a
heavy pace.
Finally the dog went away and the boys continued their journey. As they
walked they saw one of the old men that invited
them over.
He asked,
ÒWhy did you boys leaveÓ?
James said, ÒWell we were hungry and wanted to search for food.Ó
The
old men stood there and said, ÒIf you boys were hungry then we would have made
you some food.Ó
They
took a double look at both men and continued walking in the woods.
It was a dark night and a lot of strange creatures. While they were walking
into a road they saw a group of men surrounded by nightlights. Anthony
recognized one of the men so he approached himself.
ÒHey you in the blue, wasnÕt I in jail with you?Ó
ÒOh yeah, I remember you. You were in there for murder.Ó
James busted out and said, ÒWhat the hell you mean, why arenÕt you telling me
these things. I think it is important for me to know.Ó
Everybody
looked puzzled until Anthony said,
ÒI donÕt want to be here with you anymore. IÕm rolling with them.Ó
At
that moment James continued to walk by himself. Later on that night, he no
longer cared about what Anthony was doing but he sure did wish somebody was standing right beside him.
The whole time he was walking he felt like someone was following him.
His
conscious was right. Anthony and his gang were following him.
He
immediately started running until he saw a dark pathway.
He ran down the path way and all he discovered was dead bodies.
He
was trying to figure out who would do this and the only thing that was running
through his mind was Anthony and the boys that he left him for.
While he stood there looking puzzled Anthony came and admitted to killing those
people in the woods.
He
said ÒThis is the reason why I am on the runÓ.
James
looked at him and said ÒDude IÕm leaving without you and when I get to a police
station IÕm going to report this.Ó Everyone
stood there in awkward silence until they heard dogs barking and police sirens.
They wondered if they were coming and if they did Anthony was going to make
sure that James wouldnÕt tell. So Anthony grabbed James by the neck and started
to strangle him.
The boys was yelling at him telling him to stop but
all Anthony yelled back was, Ò Either you shut up and help or you leaveÓ.
So there it was. Anthony killed James with his bare hands. The boys ran and
made a pact to go get the police and tell what happened. They finally came
across a police officer and told him what happen.
ÒExcuse
me officer, but there is a murder being committed in the middle part of the
woodsÓ.
The
police looked at him like he had no since into what the boy was talking about.
ÒOur
old friend from jail is killing his cousin. And there are a few other
discovered bodies that he has killed as well.Ó
ÒOkay
boys! LetÕs go take a visit at this scene.Ó
So
they walked and when they got to the woods they realized that no one was there.
The police asked the boys if they were making things up or were they telling
the truth.
ÒNo
disrespect officer but yes we are telling the truth. If you would like we can
go to the police station and run his name down. I have his social security
information and I know his whole government name.
So they went down and got all of the information they needed. Days later they
received a call saying Òsomeone killed an elderly man in front of a liquor
store.Ó
Police
hurried and got over there and when they arrived there it was, Anthony with a
knife in his hand with blood covered all over it.
The
police arrested him, and he was given the death penalty.
James
was excited and went home with a happy spirit. He told himself never to bring a
family member with him anywhere without knowing anything about them.
